Gili Islands

If you are thinking of some quite place to visit in your upcoming vacations, then Gili Islands is an ideal choice to make.

Gili islands is perfect for the retreat vacations as it features striking beach-side cafes, captivating blue-green waters, and if you have good book to read, it adds a different delight to this pristine location. In order to experience all this, you got to visit the Gili Islands.

Gili Islands is a cluster of three small islands namely, Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. The word Gili means small. Madhu Banerjee had been to these enchanting islands on his honeymoon vacation, a few years back. Revealing his experience, he said, "My wife and I wanted to avoid the common honeymoon destinations, as these places are mostly crowded with other honeymooners. Most exotic destinations come along with high budget requirements. Thus, Gili Islands suited us the most, as the place holds the perfect blend of glamorous sceneries, privacy and adventure without extending our budget. Another reason for our choice of Gili Islands is that, it is always exciting as well as adventurous to visit mystical places.”

He also said, "Another significant about our decision to visit Gili Islands, on our honeymoon vacation because of the striking Boutique Resort Mahamaya, where we stayed in. The resort has a scenic location with two beautiful beach front villas on the tranquil Gili Meno Island, which we had found out by careful research online in advance. We decided to stay at Gili Meno which is the smallest and the peaceful one, among the three islands. No cars or motorbikes are found on this island and the only mode of transport is the Cidomo, which is a native carriage drawn by a horse.”

Gili Meno is the most isolated out of the three Gili Islands. It does not have any sight-seeing options like monuments or malls. But one can enjoy long quite walks along with your partner and go around the entire island in an hour. Through Canoe, one can reach the nearby islands like Gili Trawangan which is renowned as a party island and is also popular for snorkelling. Other activities that you can enjoy on these islands are scuba diving and glass bottom boat ride.

Sharing the experiences at this place, Madhu says, "Enjoying the romantic view of sunsets along with some fantastic Cocktails was something that we cherished very much at this island. Those who are a bit adventurous can visit the Rinjani National Park and trek up to the Crater Lake on top of Mt Rinjani, which is Indonesia's second highest peak. Travellers who want to get indulged in some urbane sight-seeing, can also stay for a couple of days at Jakarta as we did. You can even stay at Bali as it falls on the way."

Our trip was made much more enjoyable, as the local inhabitants are very hospitable and they are also aware of India and the Hindu culture. They also follow a fair bit of Bollywood and Sharukh Khan is among the favourite actors for them. He adds, "In fact, Bollywood is so popular in this country, that on a couple of occasions we got a bit irritated by the constant mention of it. Most of the people of this region know enough English to communicate, even when their local language is Sasak. As many places are run by Westerns, it makes quite easy to communicate.”
